About ME
My name is Grace Walton. I am from Gadsden, Alabama. I am a Spring 2014 graduate of Jacksonville State University. At Jacksonville State University, I was in the College of Education and Professional Studies. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Education. I am dually certified through the Alabama State Department of Education in Elementary and Collaborative Education. I am certified to teach kindergarten through 6th grade general education and kindergarten through 6th grade special education.
When I am asked why I decided to become a teacher there is not a specific person or event I believe made my decision. I believe teaching is something that has been in my heart from a very young age. I am the oldest of three children. My brother is sixteen months younger than me. When I was in kindergarten and 1st grade I would always come home and teach my brother what I had learned. My mom always says that because of this my brother was fluently reading by the time he started kindergarten.
As a high school and college student I believe that my job had a crucial role in my decision to become a teacher. At the age sixteen, I began a job with 21st Century Community Education. I worked at an after school program in the Gadsden City School System. This job allowed me to receive hands on experience working with children academically. This is when I discovered that I was very interested in how children learned and processed information.
